Alliances

By forming an alliance with one or more other races, you call a cease-fire between yourself and the other races. Your ships can safely travel through their systems and their ships through your systems. No information about your allies is provided - you have to acquire that through communication. During combat, ships of aligned races will not attack automatically one another and will instead fend off invading forces together. Alliances do not prevent you from firing missiles at member ships or planets. Should the need arise, an alliance can be broken immediately and your once-friends turned enemies will rush into battle.

The Alliances menu is available directly from Star Command. From this menu you can see your present alliances, accept or decline alliance invitations or send a new invitation to another race. When there is something of interest in this menu, it will light-up bring yellow on the Star Command screen indicating you should click into the Alliances menu to see what is new.

FORMING AN ALLIANCE

Alliances are formed in a two-step process. First, one race initiates an alliance invitation another race. The sending race can enclose a personal message with their invitation - which will be displayed to the invitee with the invitation. The receiving race then either accepts the invitation - which immediately forms the alliance - or they decline and no alliance is formed. In either case, the original sender will be notified of the outcome.

An alliance has been requested by the Humans.

Alliances take effect immediately after being formed.

Like race-to-race communication and espionage you can only initiate an alliance with another race if you have encountered them in the game. It is possible to send an invitation to another race you have encountered even if they have not encountered you.

BREAKING AN ALLIANCE

Alliances are broken when either participating race selects to leave the alliance.

ALLIANCE WINS

Certain servers allow alliances to win the game. On all other servers, alliances can not win. Refer to the Server Info screen (under Player Options) to determine what type of server you are currently playing.

If alliance wins are allowed, every member of the alliance must be aligned with every other member of the alliance. Your alliance can not contain more than six races to win.

If alliance wins are not allowed, the alliance must be broken before the game will end.
