Planets In the TERRITORIES universe, there are many types of planets you will encounter: gas giants, vast oceanic, tropical and desert planets, asteroid belts, stars and a rare few habitable worlds.
When you first begin, your race controls a single habitable world (also referred to as a home world). Your objective in TERRITORIES is to control as many habitable worlds as you can find. Habitable worlds are used to build facilities, perform research and espionage, and from which your fleets will be launched. Mining worlds support your habitable worlds by providing a source for resources which are necessary to build ships and facilities. You expand your empire by conquering new planets. New planets can only be conquered from space by ships in your fleet. Ships must have at least one weapon installed on them to conquer planets. Unless you adjust their priorities, ships will automatically try to conquer any planets they encounter that are not already controlled by your forces. Tip! As a new player, you will start with control of all of the planets in your solar system. To conquer new planets you discover elsewhere in the universe, you will need one or more ships. If a planet is uninhabited (not under the control of another race), your ships will immediately assume control of the planet. If a planet is under the control of another race, your ships must blast through any defensive shields on the planets surface in order to take control. Once a planet under enemy rule runs out of planetary defenses, your ship can assume control of the planet. Turrets do not prevent a ship from taking control of a planet - only planetary defenses. Once a planet is under your control, you can assign it to the closest habitable world and begin building mines, defenses and turrets on its surface. ABANDONING A PLANET With the exception of your habitable worlds, you can abandon any mining planet. This simply removes it from your control allowing it to be conquered by other forces or later re-conquered by your own ships. Mining planets must be assigned to a habitable world before you can build facilities on them or mine resources from them. Mining planets should be assigned to the closest habitable world to minimize the time it takes to deliver facilities to that mining planet and to receive resources from it in a timely fashion. Also, improving Drone Thrust will also reduce the "distance" between the mining planet and the habitable world by making your drones faster. On the mining planet screen, you can select the Assign Drones option and you will be presented with a list of habitable worlds and the distance to that habitable world. Selecting one of the habitable worlds will assign this planet to that world. There is an in-depth discussion of mining and resource delivery in the resources section of this guide. Users who are members have access to a special utility allowing you to quickly auto-assign all of the planets under your control to the closest respective habitable world.
You can select to rearrange all of your planets which will optimize your assignments by redirecting all of your mining planets to the closest habitable world. Or, you can select to reassign only the planets that are currently unassigned in Star Command. There is a checkbox, also, that allows you to choose whether your Star Command will appear fully expanded (which allows you to see the results of the arrangement) or whether it should collapse everything after the reorganization is complete.
