Star Map

Your star map keeps track of all of the planets, stars, ships, black holes and nebulas that you discover or encounter through exploration and astronomy.

The Star Map is a top-down display of the universe showing everything you know about.

As your ships roam the universe, planetary bodies such as stars and planets are automatically recorded on your star map for future reference.

Your own ships are always displayed (assuming you have configured them to be displayed). On the other hand, enemy or alliance ships are not displayed unless they are within range of one of your planets or ships. If an enemy ship moves out of range, it disappears from your star map.

 Customizing Your star map

By selecting the Settings option in the upper part of the star map, you can customize exactly what is displayed on the screen. This helps you filter down to only the information you want to see in order to make the best decision. Your star map remembers your settings for the next time that you bring it up so you may need to occasionally change your settings to get the best view of the universe at that moment in time.

Tip! Displaying everything on your star map can make it very hard to read and cause it to take a long time to load. Managing the information available using the settings can be a strategic advantage.

PALETTE

The palette allows you to switch the color display mode between one of two options. By default, your star map displays in Threat mode.

  • Territories  -  This displays all races in a different color and helps you determine how much of the universe is controlled by a specific race.

  • Threats  -  This displays all enemies in shades of red, your empire in shades of green and alliances in shades of teal.

ZOOM

You can change the scale of your star map by changing this setting. By default, you are in Broad zoom mode.

  • Broad  -  This displays a complete overview of the universe by representing everything as a single pixel.

  • Detailed  -  This dramatically zooms in the entire universe allowing you to see individual details such as planet and ship icons but requires considerable scrolling.

SHIPS

With this setting, you can customize exactly which types of ships show up on your star map. The checkboxes in this section allow you to configure whether or not to show your own, allied or enemy ships independently. You can also select which ship designs you would like to see or whether or not to display missiles.

By default, all ships and missiles are displayed on your star map to ensure you see all enemy activity and also keep track of where your own ships are.

PLANETS

Similarly, you can select which planets show up on your star map by altering these settings. By default, only Stars and Habitable Worlds are displayed on your star map. You can configure it to display specific only planets containing specific resources. You can also select to only show planets controlled by allied or enemy races, too.
