Assimilated Ed's Cruiser Strategy
Note! We refer to Ed as Assimilated Ed because, like many players, he plays as the Borg. If he gets to 10 wins and can permanently reserve the Borg name, then he gets the title officially!
I read the introduction strategies for winning at the Land Grab games and decided to modify the cruiser strategy a bit for my own strategy. Although it may not be the best strategy, it won me my three games without much problem - I lost the first game I played but I still had 12 homeworlds.
- Destroy all your facilities except research
- Build only research facilities and check off battle cruisers
- 16 turns later - Battle Cruiser should be researched. Stop all research components except thrust and construction efficiency (stop that when it hits 2 or 3). When thrust hits 3 or 4, destroy most research facilities and build mostly shipyards - build a couple of cruisers (should take 3-4 turns).
- When cruisers are built, send them off in random directions (remember to switch them to ignore planets).
- Destroy shipyards and build 2000 espionage and rest research. 2000 espionage centers should get you a planet in 5 turns which hopefully one of your ships will be more or less on its way to.
- When you have 2 or 3 suns found by espionage - destroy esp centers and put everything into research - continue researching thrust but put some into maneuvering, energy, energy recharge, laser damage.
Go on from there emphasizing research as much as possible but get as many Battle Cruiser as you can out there as quickly as possible - don't wait for espionage to send them to other planets.
Also - thrust is not the most important thing - turn it off occassionally if it gets to a new level (in fact I wouldn't research it much above 5 until you get at least one other homeworld).
